Types of Massage
Swedish: One of the most commonly taught and well-known massage techniques, Swedish massage is a vigorous system of treatment designed to energize the body by stimulating circulation. Five basic strokes are used to manipulate the soft tissues of the body, with a combination of kneading, rolling, vibrational, percussive, and tapping techniques.
Deep Tissue: Techniques that utilize deep tissue massage are administered to affect the sub-layer of musculature and fascia. The muscles must be relaxed in order to effectively perform deep tissue massage. This helps with chronic muscular pain and injury rehabilitation and reduces inflammation related pain caused by arthritis and tendonitis. It is generally integrated with other massage techniques.
Sports: Sports massage is designed to enhance athletic performance and recovery. Sports massage can be useful to an athlete for pre-event, post-event, and injury treatment. Depending on your needs, the massage can focus on establishing blood flow and warming up the muscles, calming the nervous system and beginning the process of flushing toxins and waste products from the body. Sports massage can also or reduce recovery time to help the athlete resume a training schedule much sooner than rest alone. When an injury is sustained, sports massage can speed and improve the quality of healing.
