Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine with Dr. Allison Achenza, DACM, L.Ac.
Dr. Allison is currently available Wednesday-Saturday for Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine treatments. Appointments can be scheduled online via JaneApp. We can verify with your insurance company if you have acupuncture benefits or not, Call (240) 722-6965 or email erinsmithlac@gmail.com for insurance related questions.

- Follow-up Acupuncture Treatments- 45 minutes to 1 hour: $85.00 ($60 under 13 years old)
Being raised in a household with doctors as parents, Dr. Allison offers a uniquely blended perspective in respect for both western and eastern medicine. “While western medicine does a wonderful job keeping us alive, it is Eastern medicine that continues to keep us well”. Allison has always had an insatiable curiosity for nature, the body, and the unknown. As a child you’d most often find her sifting through National Geographic magazines and video tapes, mashing plants into mush in bowls, watching science shows with dad, and building sandcastles or racing her brother on the beach most evenings.
As years went by, she realized she had less and less energy, digestion slowed, and she wasn’t feeling well as a teenager should. And as true as the many stories she hears as a practitioner today, she ran into many more questions than answers with tests that came back negative. She was eventually told to avoid certain foods forever, and even then it wasn’t guaranteed to help. As her symptoms got only slightly better she began to search elsewhere for answers to restore her health. And when she felt immensely better with the help of acupuncture and herbs, she couldn’t help but share this experience with whoever would cross her path. She was determined to become the practitioner to show her patients that absolutely anything is possible on your healing journey. Your body can do so much more than we are told it can.
Dr. Allison Achenza received her Doctorate of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine at Pacific College of Health Sciences as well as her bachelors in Biology from Elon University. She is a national board-certified (NCCAOM) Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. She can also perform other healing modalities such as cupping, gua sha, e-stim, and tui na. She continues her education almost daily, diving into her textbooks and taking current courses on functional medicine, nutrition, as well as fertility. Her passions took her to China (twice!) to further study traditional and effective medicinal practices there. Needles are a natural extension of her intentions to restore balance, and you will feel it (or better yet, you won’t!). She encourages questions, and will answer all concerns to the best of her ability in both eastern and western terms.
She is well versed in Chinese herbal therapy and creates custom formulas for her patients’ unique needs. Acupuncture styles vary between practitioners depending on preference, and hers is very gentle and minimalist. She prefers to blend schools of theory within Eastern medicine with TCM, five element, and Master Tung depending on each patient’s needs. No one body and no one session is the same. Her passions lie in the treatment of women’s health, pain management, digestive disorders, and mental/emotional disorders.
A big proponent for work-rest balance, you will find her spending time outdoors with friends, listening and playing music at home, reading, snuggling her cat and hubby, making tea, watching funny videos, making facial oils, and cooking up a new recipe. A natural social butterfly you’ll find her to be friendly, jovial, professional, genuine, and happy to alleviate any concerns along your healing journey.

All-In Luxury- 90-minute custom massage: $140
Signature Escape- 60-minute custom massage: $100
Quick Retreat- 45-minute custom massage: $80
In a hurry? Too much time sitting at your computer? This is a great option in between longer massages for targeted work on the upper or lower body, or a specific musculoskeletal injury you are working on regularly.
TYPES OF MASSAGE
Swedish: One of the most commonly taught and well-known massage techniques, Swedish massage is a vigorous system of treatment designed to energize the body by stimulating circulation. Five basic strokes are used to manipulate the soft tissues of the body, with a combination of kneading, rolling, vibrational, percussive, and tapping techniques. The many benefits may include generalized relaxation, dissolution of scar tissue adhesions, and improved circulation, which may speed healing and reduce swelling from injury.
Deep Tissue: Techniques that utilize deep tissue massage are administered to affect the sub-layer of musculature and fascia. The muscles must be relaxed in order to effectively perform deep tissue massage. This helps with chronic muscular pain and injury rehabilitation and reduces inflammation related pain caused by arthritis and tendonitis. It is generally integrated with other massage techniques.
Sports: Sports massage is designed to enhance athletic performance and recovery. Sports massage can be useful to an athlete for pre-event, post-event and injury treatment. Depending on your needs, the massage can focus on establishing blood flow and warming up the muscles, calming the nervous system and beginning the process of flushing toxins and waste products from the body, or reducing recovery time to resume a training schedule much sooner than rest alone. When an injury is sustained, sports massage can speed and improve the quality of healing.
Beth is experienced in deep tissue and Swedish massage. She has practiced in many different settings, including corporate, wellness and fitness centers, assisted living communities, and spas. She graduated from the Potomac Massage Therapy Institute of Maryland in 1995. She completed coursework in sports massage, myofascial release, reflexology, Thai yoga massage, Kinesio taping and aromatherapy. She received her BS in Dietetics at the University of Maryland in 1985. She believes massage therapy can be an important component of a successful wellness routine.
